Description

Our conical mark was the first mark developed by our founder, Tom Martin in the early 1980’s and is affectionally referred to as the “Martin” mark.

This is our most popular mark, combining stability, visibility and towability.

Numerous prototypes were created to develop an inflatable mark with the best combination of stability, towability, durability, visibility, and price. The Martin Mark achieves the optimum combination of these attributes.

The cone-shaped design makes them highly stable in the water and provides a wide buoyancy surface, which makes them easy to spot on the water, precisely marking course, navigational or swimming zones.

The Martin Mark is our most popular mark for good reason. A typical 19-foot support boat can tow up to six, six-foot Martin Marks or four, eight-foot Martin Marks at speeds up to 30 knots. Even with heavy use, customers can expect over 10 years of service from each mark.

  • Durability – The Martin Mark uses 32oz PVC polyester fabric – that’s 56% heavier than competing products.
  • Towing – Exceptionally well-suited for towing at speeds up to 30 knots.
  • Stability – remarkably secure using a 10-15lb. counterweight for stability and anchor rode management, this design stays upright in all wind and sea conditions.
  • Visibility – Because of its stability and wide-spectrum of color choices, sailors, swimmers and marine professionals are assured great visibility on the water.
  • Price – Although our marks may come at a higher upfront expense, their endurance ultimately makes them more affordable over time.

Standard sizes (Variations):

  • 4’ is ideal as an offset mark for fleet racing, or primary mark in short course match racing and team racing.
  • 6’ is the perfect size when greater visibility is desired for inshore and lake sailing with course legs up to 1.5nm
  • 8’ is commonly used for sailboat offshore racing in big seas and/or when larger yachts (over 50’) are competing, or long course legs inshore, triathlons, bay/ocean swim meets and powerboat racing
